The Sustainability of Working Remotely
Secure access for remote workers is a top cybersecurity challenge for most organizations. Knowledge workers are still working remotely, and many plan to continue working from home for the foreseeable future. You can read more about the trends in remote work and cybersecurity in this infographic from Symantec.
Around 30% of remote workers are anticipated to remain permanently at home. The share of knowledge workers working remotely is projected to increase from 27% in 2019 to 45% in 2022.
Organizations are facing significant challenges in securing remote workers. 95% of IT leaders identify email as the greatest threat to company data, and 59% have reported an increase in email data leaks since implementing remote work. Additionally, 88% of large enterprises consider cybersecurity more critical than before the pandemic.
By 2024, it is expected that at least 40% of all remote access usage will be predominantly served by zero trust architectures, a significant increase from less than 5% at the end of 2020. This shift reflects the need for more robust security measures in a remote working environment.
